Mason Shoots 68 To Lead Golf to 5th Place at Princeton

Owls move up three spots on final day

PRINCETON, NJ - Senior Andrew Mason shot a three under-par 68 on the final day of competition at the Princeton Invitational to propel Temple to a fifth place finish Sunday at the par 71 Springdale Golf Club. The Owls' three over-par round of 287 was the second best on the day, trailing only tournament champion Yale (283), and allowing the team to move from up three spots from Saturday.

"Andrew had a remarkable round today and really lead the way for us," said Temple golf coach Brian Quinn. "It was, however, a total team effort. I am pleased with the way we are starting to play of late. It bodes well heading into the final two weeks of the season."

It is the second sub-70 round of the season for Mason, who tied for 16th overall (75-76-68, 219). He carded a career-best 66 at the The McLauglin on September 17.

Freshman Steve Burak (73-77-71, 221), who shot an even-par 71 on the final round, tied for 20th ovrall while freshman Connor McNicholas (76-72-74, 222) was one shot back and tied for 22nd.. Sophomore Devin Bibeau (79-73-78, 230) and senior Mark Edmondson (77-76-77, 230) were tied for 48th with freshman Russell Hartung (80-79-74, 233, t-53rd) rounding out the Owl golfers.

Yale (848) won the 12-team invitational by six strokes over Penn (854) with the Bulldogs Sam Bernstein (68-72-68, 208) and Tom McCarthy (69-71-70, 210) placing one-two overall.

Temple next competes at the Century Intercollegiate hosted by Yale on April 16-17..
