Junior captain posted undefeated week in singles and doubles
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Temple's Filip Rams and Pete Carpenter of Duquesne were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Performer and Rookie Performer of the Week, respectively, as announced by the Conference office on Monday.
Rams put on a perfect performance last week for the Owls; going 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles without dropping a set. The Katowice, Poland, native rolled to his trio of No. 1 singles victories, defeating Alex Veronis of Saint Joseph's (6-3, 6-4), Stefan Bojic of St. John's (6-4, 7-5) and NJIT's Petr Rousar (6-1, 6-0). Rams, along with partner Taylor Hairston, also secured impressive doubles wins at the top tandem position, downing their counterparts from Saint Joseph's, 8-4, St. John's, 8-2, and NJIT, 8-4. Rams will enters this week riding a seven-match win streak in singles, all on the number one court, and a four-match win streak in doubles play. He is 21-7 in singles action and 21-9 in doubles play this season.
Carpenter went 4-0 last week, picking up wins against a pair of fellow Atlantic 10 Conference opponents. The Alburtis, Pa., native opened the weekend with an 8-2 victory over Dayton's tandem at No. 3 doubles with partner Matt Smith, before earning a convincing straight set win (6-0, 6-0) on the number-two singles court. Carpenter, along with teammate Kyle O'Leary closed out the regular season with an 8-4 doubles victory against Saint Joseph's at No. 3 doubles and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 individual triumph over the Hawks at No. 2 singles.
