Owls will play Duquesne for third place on Sunday

Box Score

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. –
All seeds held at the Men's Tennis Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday and Saturday, and as a result, the third-seeded Temple squad will take on number four Duquesne in the third place match on Sunday, April 17. TU dropped a semifinal match to second-seeded Xavier, 4-3, on Saturday evening. The tournament is being held in Saint Louis, Mo., at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.

The Owls took the doubles point to grab the early lead. Junior Filip Rams and freshman Taylor Hairston started the match by defeating Patrick Bandy and Brian Starr, 8-5. The Musketeers tied made it even with a win at number two, but junior Dmitry Vizhunov and sophomore Kacper Rams secured the point with an 8-6 decision over Brandon MacDonald and Philip Diaz at number three.

Xavier tied it up at 1-1 with a Bandy win over Hairston at number five, 6-1, 6-2, in singles play. Vizhunov responded with a 6-2, 6-2, decision against MacDonald to put the Cherry and White back up, 2-1. Xavier won the next three bouts to secure the victory, taking victories on courts one, two and four.

Despite having the match decided 4-2 in the Musketeers' favor, an unsportsmanlike call on the number six court as the final point was being contested led to a win for Gishkaev over Starr, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, to make the final score 4-3.

Temple is 17-8 overall and will take on Duquesne in the third-place match on Sunday, April 17, at 11 a.m. The Owls defeated the Dukes 5-2 earlier this season.
