COLLINGSWOOD, NJ - In a rain-shortened Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship, Temple had two of its three competing boats advance to the grand final, helping the Owls place seventh in the regatta held Saturday morning on the Cooper River. Graduate student Brynn Moore, who rowed in the two-seat of the Varsity 8, was named to the 2011 A-10 Women's Rowing All-Conference team.
The Varsity 8, comprised of sophomore Paige O' Sullivan (stroke), sophomore Megan Welsh (7-seat), junior Allison Boc (6-seat), junior Taylor Wasserleben (5-seat), sophomore Joanna Sutor (4-seat), freshman Jackie Lees (3-seat), Moore (2-seat), sophomore Claudia Loeber (bow) and senior Erin Buchanan (cox), placed second in its heat before rowing to a fifth place finish in the final.
The Varsity 4, comprised of freshman Kara Carson (stroke), sophomore Brittany Adell (3-seat), sophomore Angela Flinn (2-seat), junior Kara Jackson (bow) and sophomore Jillian Malkowski (cox), finished third in their morning heat before placing sixth in the final.
The Owls' other boat to compete, the Second Varsity 8, placed fourth in their heat, putting the boat in the petite final. The boat, comprised of junior Dana Meadows (stroke), senior Caitlin Pennington (7-seat), freshman Sarah Barber (6-seat), sophomore Grace Givnish (5-seat), freshman Sarah Gierhart (4-seat), freshman Victoria Joye (3-seat), freshman Lauren Kidd (2-seat), freshman Megan Boyer (bow) and senior Allison Bates (cox), placed second in that race.
Temple's Quad boat did not compete as that race was cancelled due to deteriorating conditions on the river.
Saint Joseph's won its first A-10 Championship, edging UMass and Rhode ISland in a tie-breaker.
The Owls next compete at the Bergen Cup on Saturday, April 30.
