SAINT LOUIS, Mo. –
The Temple softball team was waiting to board its flight from the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport to Philadelphia on Friday evening when a tornado hit the airport, causing an evacuation. The team is safe at a nearby hotel, and there were no injuries.

“Everybody on the team is alright,” said head coach Joe DiPietro. “The girls are upset to not be able to spend Easter with their families, but we are just thankful everybody is okay.”

The squad eventually secured a bus from Saint Louis to Cambridge, Ohio, where they were met by an Academy bus, the regular bus company that Temple uses to travel to games. From there, they drove through the night, returning to Philadelphia early Sunday morning.

Temple (20-18, 11-3 A-10) was in Saint Louis for a pair of Atlantic 10 games against the Saint Louis Billikens, played Thursday and Friday. The Owls were victorious in both, winning 9-1 on Thursday and 1-0 Friday afternoon before the drama unfolded.
