Temple duo garner Player and Rookie of Week accolades
PHILADELPHIA – Temple senior Andrew Mason was named Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Player of the Week while freshman Steve Burak shared A-10 Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending April 26. Mason, a native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa (Abington Friends), earns his second honor of the season while Burak, a native of North Easton, Mass. (Thayer Academy), wins his third conference award.
Mason was the top finisher for Temple in the rain-shortened Rams Invitational shooting a one-over par 72 to finish in a tie for third place out of 56 participating golfers. The Owls' captain was instrumental in helping the TU win its first tournament since the 2008 Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational held October 11-12. In the team standings, Temple finished seven strokes ahead of three other schools that tied for second including tournament host Rhode Island.
Burak shot a two-over 73 to finish in sixth place out of 56 golfers at the Rams Invitational. He was the second best finisher for the Owls at the rain-shortened event placing one shot behind Mason. He shared the honor with La Salle freshman Michael Johnson.
The Owls next compete at the A-10 Championships starting this Friday at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
