Women's Track & Field Competes In Day One of Penn Relays

Owens places 20th in Eastern shot put, 4x4 takes 27th in qualifying

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Assata Cowart kicked off the Penn Relays with a 32nd place finish in the 400m hurldes, while junior Alanna Owens placed 20th in the shot put and the 4x400m relay team finished 27th in qualifying action to highlight day one at Franklin Field.

Cowart posted a time of 61.89 in the 400m hurdles, while Owens placed 20th in the college women's shot put Eastern with a toss of 41-07.0. For the 4x400m relay, freshman Ambrosia Iwugo, senior Shadaya Bennett, senior Paris Williams and freshman Tanisha Wells, ran 3:47.58 to place 27th and qualify as the first alternate for the college women's 4x400 ECAC race on Saturday (5:40 p.m.). The 4x100m, comprised of Crystal Hercules, Dia Dorsey, Andrea Butler and Gennie Depass ran 48.48 to place 49th.

Still left for the Owls at the Penn Relays is the 4x200m relay squad in action at 2:10 p.m. on Friday and the 4x800m relay running at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
