Women's Tennis Keeps Rolling with 7-0 Win Over Delaware

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Temple women's tennis team continued its dominance with a 7-0 win over Delaware on Tuesday afternoon at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Owls improve to 14-6 for the season and have now won their past five matches.
In doubles play, Theresa Stangl and Jordan Batey fell to Delaware's Samantha Carnall and Megan Doran, 8-3. However, the Owls were able to get on the board when the senior duo of Elyse Steiner and Lucie Pazderova won 8-4 at second doubles. The deciding match came down to third doubles where Alicia Doms and Yana Mavrina defeated Ivana Petrich and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom, 9-7. The freshman duo came back after being down 2-7, to secure the point for the Owls.
In singles play, Batey kept things rolling with a 6-2, 6-1 win at fourth singles. She was followed by Mavrina, who dropped just three games in defeating Delaware's Dorothy Safron, 6-3, 6-0. Doms was able to secure the win for the Owls with an impressive 6-4, 6-4 win at third singles.
With the match decided in Temple's favor, play continued on courts one, five and six. In first singles, Steiner defeated Doran in a tight 7-6 (8), 7-6 (1) match. She was followed by Bergman who battled against Montse Ripolli to win 6-4, 7-5 in the sixth position. In fifth singles, Pazderova dropped the first set 1-6 but was able to fight back to win the match 6-1, 6-4.
The Owls continue play Wednesday April 6 when they host A-10 foe St. Joseph's at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center at 12:30 p.m.
