PHILADELPHIA – Stephanie Markunas and Charlotte Swavola each recorded hat tricks to lead Temple lacrosse to a 13-10 win over George Washington (4-9, 1-2) on Friday afternoon. A steady rain fell for the entire game as the two Atlantic 10 rivals battled it out, with Temple (4-8, 2-1) coming back from three goals down in the first half.

Markunas added two assists on the day for five total points. Missy Schweitzer and Jackie Mercer scored two goals apiece for Temple, while Lea Britton, Jaymie Tabor and Ann Stouffer each recorded one.

Tess Bishop had a strong performance in goal with eight saves for the Owls, including an impressive save in the final minutes to help hold off any thoughts of a comeback for the Colonials.

George Washington built a 7-4 lead with 5:30 remaining in the first half, two of those goals coming from Nicole Lacey on an assist from Sarah Phillips.

Temple fought back to tie the score at 7-7 with the help of back-to-back unassisted goals from Swavola, and the teams took an 8-8 tie into halftime.

Scoring slowed in the second half, but Temple broke open a 9-9 tie with a 3-0 run including two goals by Mercer. GW's Megan Seidman cut the margin to two, 12-10 with nine minutes remaining, but at 6:14 Temple's Tabor scored the final goal of the game on an assist from Markunas.

Fouls were costly for the Colonials, who committed 22 of them to Temple's five. The Owls scored on five of seven free position attempts, while GW missed its only attempt.

Temple will return to action at home on Sunday, April 10 in a 1:00 p.m. game against A-10 rival Richmond.
