CHARLOTTE, N.C.
- The 4x800m relay team snapped their own meet record and took first place to highlight action for the Temple women's track & field team on day one of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championships in Charlotte.  The Owls currently sit in 10th place after action on Saturday afternoon.

Rhode Island is in first place with 79 points, followed by Dayton with 65 points and Richmond with 62.50.

The 4x800m relay team, made up of seniors Shadaya Bennett and Tashima Stephens, along with sophomores Tonney Smith and Victoria Gocht, repeated their feat of a first place finish last year and trumped the meet record they set as well.  The quartet ran a time of 8:43.10, nearly five seconds faster than their school record time from last season.

Sophomore Crystal Hercules qualified for the 100m dash finals with a preliminary time of 12.30.  Senior Assata Cowart will be in action on Sunday, qualifying for the 100m hurdles finals with a time of 14.68.
