Gocht snaps meet record in first place finish in 800m

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Sophomore Victoria Gocht snapped the meet record en route to a first place finish in the 800m as the Temple women's track & field team placed sixth in the Atlantic 10 Championships, held Sunday afternoon in Charlotte. The Owls tallied 75 points over the two days, rallying from 10th place to finish sixth.
Gocht cruised to a first place finish in the 800m, running a time of 2:08.34. The sophomore bested the previous meet record, set in 2010 by Fordham's Kerri Gallagher, by less than a second.
Freshman Ambrosia Iwugo placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.85, while sophomore Crystal Hercules placed eighth in the 100m dash finals. Senior Paris Williams fared well in the 400m dash finals, placing seventh with a time of 56.44.
Senior Assata Cowart ran 59.74 in the 400m hurdles to take first place, followed closely by sophomore Tessa West who placed fourth with a time of 1:02.09. Cowart also ran a solid time in the 100m hurdles to place fifth (14.63).
The Owls' 4x100m combined for a time of 46.96 to place third, while the 4x400m relay posted a second place time of 3:41.74. In the field, junior Allana Owens placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 44-00.75.
