PHILADELPHIA - Thanks to a sold-out field of golfers, extraordinary weather, and another strong sponsor response, the 26th Annual Owl Club Golf Classic netted more than $45,000 for Temple Athletics on Monday, June 20.
White Manor Country Club, situated in Malvern, Pa., and one of the country's most beautiful and challenging golf courses, played host to The Classic for the first time in the event's history after a prolific run at LuLu Country Club.
Owl Club President Holden Hummel and event coordinators Chet Zukowski and Michael Bamonti reported that record revenue totals were achieved, as the net amount exceeding $45,000 was realized on over $77,500 in gross income. This year's edition of The Classic also saw increases in player participation (from 112 golfers in 2010 to 128 golfers in 2011) and individual and corporate sponsorships. All net proceeds from the athletic department's largest annual golf fundraiser benefit the greatest annual needs of more than 565 student-athletes across 24 sport programs.
“Temple Athletics is extremely grateful, first and foremost, to White Manor for helping us provide a quality tournament at an unparalleled level, so that our fans, alumni and friends could enjoy a remarkable day,” said Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. “We are equally appreciative of our individual and corporate sponsors, whose loyalty and support make the Owl Club Golf Classic a preeminent event on our calendar each year – thank you for investing in the betterment of Temple's student-athletes. Additionally, we can't say thank you enough to our 128 golfers, whose participation will serve to support the Owls' undying quest for excellence. Onward and upward!”
Major sponsors included presenting sponsor Kimmel-Bogrette Architecture + Site, as well as Front Row Marketing, Global Spectrum, New Era Tickets, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Doubletree By Hilton, Pepsi, and Under Armour.
Temple Hall of Fame coaches Wayne Hardin and John McDonald were among the field once again, joining current Temple head coaches Steve Addazio (Football), Fran Dunphy (Men's Basketball), Tonya Cardoza (Women's Basketball) and Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. Each head coach joined Bradshaw in previewing their respective seasons at the post-golf auction and dinner.
Details regarding the 27th Annual Owl Club Golf Classic will be forthcoming once confirmed.
