Conn scores for the second straight game
WEST HARTFORD, Conn.— Continuing its longest road swing of the season, Temple women's soccer (2-2-0) traveled to the University of Hartford (3-0-1) on Sunday looking to pull out a split in its weekend agenda after enduring Friday's loss at Drexel. The Hawks scored five straight goals to open the match before senior Niki Conn broke the shutout in the 75th minute, but it wasn't enough to stir a comeback for the Owls, as they fell 5-1.
The Hawks scored two goals a minute and 50 seconds apart inside the 7th and 9th minute, getting themselves off to a quick start. Hartford's offensive pressure was too much for the Owls' defense to handle, as it had five different goal scorers in the match.
Julianne Oberholzer opened the scoring spree when she scored on redshirt junior goalkeeper Tara Murphy on a wide-open look. Junior Caitlin Alves, senior Michele DeSanti, redshirt senior Mary Beth Hamilton and junior Amelia Pereira followed with tallies of their own. Pereira finished the match with a game-high four points, having a goal and two assists.
Down 3-0 at the half, senior Gillian Kacsuta got her first chance to see action this season when she took over in net for the Owls when the teams returned for the remaining 45 minutes.
The change in goal didn't tantalize the Hawks as they poured on two goals within the 47th and 48th minute.
From that point on, Temple put up its strongest offensive pressure of the day, leading to five shots.
On a failed clear attempt by the Hawks, the Owls capitalized when Conn scored a goal for the second straight game when she got the ball with an open look.
Temple, now 2-2-0 on the season, heads to Buffalo, N.Y. on Friday to take on the Bulls at 7:00 p.m.
