Sunday-at Niagara: Live Stats
PHILADELPHIA – The five-match road trip for Temple women's soccer picks back up on Friday evening in Buffalo, N.Y. when the Owls take on the University of New York at Buffalo Bulls at 7 p.m. before heading up north to Niagara University for Sunday morning's date with the Purple Eagles, which is slated for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
After winning the first two games to begin the season, Temple dropped matches to Drexel and Hartford last weekend on the road, evening its record at 2-2-0 coming into this weekend's affairs.
Senior Niki Conn has been the offensive catalyst for the Owls so far this season. In the last four games, Conn has gathered five points, including a goal in each of Temple's contests last weekend.
The Bulls are coming off last weekend's 3-2 loss to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. The defeat was Buffalo's first of the year after opening the season with three straight shutout victories.
Buffalo has had production all throughout its lineup in the four games, as six different players have scored a goal this season. Sophomore Ainsley Wheldon has backed the Buffalo defense in goal, making 23 saves and posting a 0.72 goals against average through four starts.
Sunday's Patriot Day matchup with Niagara will feature a Purple Eagles squad that is off to a 1-3-0 start to their 2011 season. Before opening a two-game homestand this weekend, Niagara is fresh off a 2-1 overtime victory at Bowling Green last weekend. Junior Jamie Raepple comes into the weekend as the team's leading scorer, having a goal and an assist. Sophomore Breanna Catipovic has been an offensive force as well, leading her teammates with seven shots on goal. Goalkeepers senior Gabrielle Wilson and freshman Mariah Hoy have each seen significant time in net so far this season. Wilson has started all four games to date and leads the way with a 1-1 record.
Note: It was officially announced that Temple and Marist have reached the agreement to cancel the match that was postponed on Aug. 28 due to Hurricane Irene, after being unable to reach a decision on a rescheduled date.
