NEW YORK, N.Y. –
Friday night at the NYC Gotham Cup was the site of a solid performance for the Temple women's track and field squad, as several competitors for the Owls claimed personal bests in their respective events.

Freshman Jenna Dubrow once again put her talent on display. In her running of the 5000 meter run, she blazed across the finish line in 18:12.51 for third place overall. Her finish time is what was most impressive on this night, because she shattered a school record that was set back in 1982 by Sheila D'Alo when she ran the event in a time 19:00.02.

Sophomore Sarah Rutter's performance in the same event was also very impressive. Her eight place finish in a time of 18:51.88 also surpassed the record formerly held by D'Alo.

In the 500 meter dash, the Owls were well-represented, having four of its competitors place within the top 10. Jade Wilson led Temple in the event with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:15.96 for second place overall.

Tessa West, Ambrosia Iwugo and Sheina Roberts finished the race seconds later, placing fifth, seventh and 10th, respectively.

In the ensuing event, Elizabeth-Paige White took second place in the 800 meter run, setting a new personal best time of 2:19.32

Tonney Smith also made adjustments to her personal records, with her time of 2:58.24 in the 1000-meter run, which was good enough for an 11th place finish.

Before the evening wrapped up, Alana Owens put up an ECAC qualifying distance in the shot put event. Owens threw 14.11 meters for the second-best distance.

Freshman Margo Britton took fifth place in the shot put with her distance of 12.82 meters.

Owens and Britton also placed within the top 10 of the weight throw event, earning sixth and eighth place, respectively.

Head Coach Eric Mobley saw improvements right from the get go, as Isatta Kenneh completed the 60 meter dash in 7.77 for 10th place. Prior to the final, Kenneh placed first in her heat of the preliminary round, which gave her 10th overall.

“I was very pleased with how we performed last night,” Mobley said. “Once again, our intensity was there and everyone was ready to get after it. This was a good event for us and it was a solid one as we are working on building our way toward a championship.”

Temple will be back in action when it heads to Landover, Md. next Saturday for the Terrapin Invitational.
