CINCINNATI, Ohio – Shey Peddy and Kristen McCarthy combined for 37 points as Temple women's basketball got its fourth straight win with a 64-38 victory at Xavier on Tuesday night. Temple's defense forced the Musketeers (3-15, 0-5) into 26 turnovers and the Owls (11-8, 4-1) shot over 47 percent from the field in the win.

Peddy scored 19 points on an impressive 7-of-9 shooting effort that included 4-of-5 from behind the arc. McCarthy's 18-point effort was combined with six assists while BJ Williams also dished six assists for Temple. Victoria Macaulay pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

McCarthy scored three quick buckets to help Temple race out to an 8-0 lead, but a pair of three-pointers helped Xavier recover quickly.

The Musketeers committed eight turnovers in just over 10 minutes off which the Owls got nine points, but Temple was unable to match its early eight-point lead until the final four minutes of the half.

Monaye Merritt hit a jumper to cap an 8-0 run for the Owls that put them ahead by their largest margin of the first half, 13, 25-12 with 2:44 remaining. The Musketeers then closed the half on a 7-2 run and Temple led by eight at the break, 27-19. The Owls shot 50 percent from the field in the half compared to Xavier's 33.3 percent, and committed just eight turnovers to the Musketeers' 14.

Opening the second half much like she opened the first for the Owls, McCarthy scored nine points as part of a 16-5 opening run that gave Temple a 19-point, 43-24 lead with 13:16 remaining.

The Muskeeters stopped the bleeding with a 7-1 run of their own to come within 13 near the midway point of the second half, but it was as close as they would get.

Peddy hit three three-pointers down the stretch including one that appeared to bank off the side of the backboard, and she also converted an old-fashioned three-point play that gave Temple its first 20-point lead, 58-38 with 3:21 left in the game. The Owls scored the final six points of the game with Peddy's third trey along with another by Brittany Lewis.

The Owls will return home for their next game, a 2:00 p.m. contest against Charlotte on Sunday, Jan. 29 which will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
