PHILADELPHIA - Looking to extend its four-game winning streak, the Temple women's basketball team will face Charlotte at home on Sunday, Jan. 29 in the Liacouras Center at 2:00 p.m. The Owls (11-8, 4-1) and the 49ers (13-7, 5-1) will both be looking to avoid getting a second Atlantic 10 loss as they face-off in front of a television audience on CBS Sports Network.

THE OPENING TIP
•Temple is 4-1 in the Atlantic 10 and coming off a blowout win at Xavier, 64-38...Shey Peddy and Kristen McCarthy combined for 37 points in the win with Peddy shooting 7-of-9 including 4-of-5 behind the arc.

•The Owls' other three A-10 wins (Richmond, Dayton, Duquesne) all saw the teams separated by just a point in the final minute as Temple has now proven it can hang on in tight games.

•The Owls have now won four straight with one of those being a non-conference win, a 72-47 blowout vs. Penn on Jan. 21.

Joelle Connelly and Victoria Macaulay had career performances in the Penn win...Connelly scored her Temple career high with 16 points while Macaulay scored a career-high 20 points.

•Temple beat Duquesne 67-64 on Jan. 18 after letting an 11-point second-half lead slip away entirely as the Dukes rallied to eventually lead by a point...Peddy hit two clutch free throws in the final 10 seconds...The Owls won 61-57 at Dayton on Jan. 15, leading by 10 at halftime before the Flyers came back to take a one-point lead with under six minutes remaining.

•Peddy scored a game-high 21 points at Dayton and a game-high 22 points vs. Duquesne, and currently ranks second among all players in the A-10 with 16.1 points per game...She also ranks third in steals with 53 (2.8 per game).

•Temple suffered only its second regular-season A-10 loss since the 2009-10 season when it was defeated 74-65 by St. Bonaventure at home on Jan. 11.

•In the A-10 season opener at Richmond on Jan. 7, McCarthy hit the game-winning jumper on an assist from Peddy with 0.2 seconds on the clock, lifting the Owls to a 56-55 win...Temple had trailed by as many as 14 points in the game.

•Macaulay has averaged 10.2 rebounds in Temple's five A-10 games including a career-high 13 boards in the win at Richmond on Jan. 7...She ranks second in the A-10 so far for conference games only.

•Four of the Owls' losses have been to teams ranked in the Top 25.

SERIES RECORD
Temple holds a 6-2 advantage in the all-time series against Charlotte. The Owls lost the first meeting in 1998, but have gone 6-1 since 2006. The past two meetings have been notable for different reasons. In Charlotte last year, Temple won in the final seconds by a score of 60-57. Two years ago they Owls won 79-68 on their home court thanks to a program-record 42 points from Kristen McCarthy. Charlotte's last win was in the 2009 A-10 semifinals when the 49ers earned a convincing, 73-50 win.

LAST TIME VS. CHARLOTTE
Last's year's meeting between the Owls and 49ers in Charlotte was a nail-biter of a win for Temple, 60-57. Kristen McCarthy led all players with 22 points.

Charlotte led by as many as six at 50-44 with 5:40 remaining, but the Owls got back in it with a 7-0 run to retake the lead at 51-50. After a tie score at 53-53, Charlotte hit a three to lead once again, but McCarthy hit 2-of-2 at the line to put TU within a point, 57-56. After some misses by the 49ers, then-senior Marli Bennett corralled a rebound and Wallace went through traffic and made a layup with five seconds on the clock for a 58-57 Temple lead. She then got a steal on Charlotte's possession, was fouled and sank both attempts at the line to seal the win.

POSTS STEP UP
Temple has relied heavily on guard play for most of the season and finally got the kind of game it was looking for from its post players in a 72-47 win vs. Penn on Jan. 21. Victoria Macaulay scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting along with grabbing a game-high eight rebounds, while Joelle Connelly scored her Temple career-high with 16 points including 8-of-8 at the line.

MAC ATTACK
Victoria Macaulay has been crashing the glass in a big way over Temple's last few games, so much so that she ranks second among all players in the A-10 for conference games with 10.2 rebounds per game. She has recorded double-digit rebounds in four of the Owls' last seven games including a career-high 13 in a win at Richmond on Jan. 7.

BIGGEST COMEBACK WIN IN TWO YEARS
Temple's recent 56-55 win in the A-10 opener at Richmond saw the Owls overcome a 14-point deficit en route to the victory. Temple has had plenty of near-comebacks this season and last, but none that resulted in a win since a season-opening victory in 2009-10 when Temple came back from 18 down to defeat Illinois in overtime.

80 FOR CARDOZA
Temple's blowout win vs. Penn on Jan. 21 was the 80th career victory for fourth-year head coach Tonya Cardoza, who now stands at 81-36 overall for a winning percentage of .692.

RIGHT IN IT
Five of TU's losses came in a six-game road swing, and TU lost the first four by an average of only seven. They were within two in the final minute three times (#24/25 Ohio St., N. Illinois and St. John's).

BJ DISTRIBUTION COMPANY
Senior BJ Williams has led the Owls in assists in 13 of 19 games so far this season, and has already racked up 87 total assists (4.8 per game) to rank second among all players in the Atlantic 10.

PEDDY THEFT
Shey Peddy continues to find ways to grab the ball from Temple's opponents, as she leads the team and ranks third in the A-10 this season with 53 steals (2.8 per game). Peddy set the program's all-time record for steals in a single season last year with 104, recording at least one steal in all but one game. Her 3.2 spg a year ago ranked second in the A-10 and tied for 10th in NCAA Division I.

THREE-POINT STREAK
The final game of the 2008-09 season marked the last time Temple did not hit at least one three-pointer as a team. The Owls have now achieved that feat for 86 straight games.

PEDDY NAMED TO NAISMITH WATCH LIST
Shey Peddy was named to the 2011-12 Naismith Trophy Women's early-season watch list, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. The list includes the 50 top women's college players from 35 schools, and was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2012 season.

RPI REPORT
Temple is 50th in the RPI of 342 teams. The A-10's top team is Richmond, ranked 36th.

McCARTHY MOVES INTO FIFTH ALL-TIME
With a game-high 14 points against Villanova on Dec. 22, Kristen McCarthy moved into fifth place all-time at Temple in career scoring, now with 1,451 points.

McCarthy started the season in 11th place, but advancing further will take some time as Kamesha Hairston ('07) stands in fourth place with 1,573 points (122 ahead of McCarthy).

McCARTHY IS HEAD OF THE CLASS
On Nov. 4, it was announced that Kristen McCarthy was one of 30 candidates selected for the Lowe's 2011-12 Women's Basketball Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes notable achievements in four areas- classroom, character, community and competition. McCarthy was not selected as one of 10 finalists when the list was released on Jan. 25.

OWLS STEP UP IN THE COMMUNITY
The team stepped up in the community of Philadelphia, literally, when the Owls took part in the Philly Stair Climb on Dec. 4, to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Pennsylvania's (SOPA's) Philadelphia program also known as T.E.A.M. Philly. The Philly Stair Climb is 53-floor vertical challenge that took place at the BNY Mellon Center downtown. As a team, the Owls raised $1200 for the cause.

NOW THE TEAM TO BEAT
After four years of finishing higher than predicted in the A-10, the Owls are finally picked first in a tie with Dayton. Last year Temple was picked third and ended up second, and two years ago was picked fifth and went on to tie for second.
