PHILADELPHIA –
Temple will host the annual Big 5 Golf Invitational this weekend at the 6,670-yard par 70 North Course at Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley, Pa. The two-day event, which will take place from Saturday October 13th to Sunday October 14th, will include 19 teams from various conferences including all six Division I universities in the Philadelphia region. (Temple, Penn, Villanova, Saint Joseph's, La Salle, and Drexel).

Philmont's North Course has hosted many prestigious events including the Nike Tour (now the Web.com Tour)in the mid-90s and local qualifiers for the US Open and US Amateur. It is a true classic with tree lined fairways and firm, fast greens.

"Our goal is to make this one of the finest college golf tournaments in the country and to make these young men feel like they are playing in a PGA Tour event," said Temple head golf coach Brian Quinn.  "We are incredibly grateful to be able to host the event at another phenomenal golf course, Philmont Country Club. I would also like to thank Philmont's head golf professional Mickey Sokalski and his staff for all their help as well as the members who have graciously made the course available to us for the weekend."

In addition to the six Philadelphia teams, other schools that will be making an appearance include Binghamton, Brown, Columbia, Connecticut, Cornell, Dartmouth, Fordham, Hartford, Navy, Princeton, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall and Yale.

Dartmouth won last year's Big 5 Invitational with a 578 score for the two-day event held at Plymouth Country Club.  Temple placed eighth among the 22 competing teams. Sebastian Backlund of Francis Marion was the individual medalist with a two-under par 138.

Play begins Saturday at 8:00 AM. Check back to owlsports.com or Golfstat.com for complete recaps and results of the day's action.
