Brandon Matthews Named Under Armour Athlete of the Month for September

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University freshman Brandon Matthews has been named the Under Armour Athlete of the Month for September. The DuPont, Pa., native earned the honor due to the stellar start to his Owl career, earning three Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors and one A10 Player of the Week citation over the month.
Matthews, who has led Temple in three of the team's four outings in September, has compiled a team-best 71.2 stroke average over 10 rounds. The rookie sensation won the Hartford Hawks Invitational (9/24-25) with a two-under par 214,eagling on the first hole of the sudden death playoff to capture the tounament. He also carded a 64 on the final round of The McLaughlin (9/15-16) to finish with an even par 210. He placed seventh overall and his 64 was the second lowest round in Temple history and lowest in 39 years. It also was the lowest round ever at The McLaughlin.
Matthews also led the Owls and tied for 15th at the Macdonald Cup (9/29-30).
