CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION

PHILADELPHIA – This Saturday, the 2012 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships come to Philadelphia. Temple University, who is in its final season of competing in the league, is the host for this year's running of the men's 8k and women's 5k championship races, which will be run on the course of Belmont Plateau at West Fairmount Park.

The women's championship run will begin at 10:00 a.m. before the gun goes off at 10:45 a.m. to signal the start of the men's race for the A-10 title.

With the addition of Butler and Virginia Commonwealth to the conference, this year's A-10 Championship will be coveted by more teams than it ever has, as 16 schools will be competing for the league title. La Salle won both titles last season and is the preseason favorite to repeat as champions in both races.

Temple, who is under the direction of eight-year head coach Eric Mobley and his new assistant Adam Bray, will be looking to bring home its first-ever A-10 Championship in cross country. Having just three meets under their belt coming into this race, the Owls have responded well after being accustomed to a very quick transition of Bray's arrival to instruct both sqauds.

On the men's side, the Owls opened the season with their first meet victory since 2010 when it defeated A-10 and city rivals La Salle and Saint Joseph's in the Friend Invitational, which took place on the very same course that the teams will compete on this Saturday.  Sophomore Cullen Davis and junior Will Kellar, who have put up strong performances in all three races this season,  came one, two in the team's season-opening meet—igniting the team to the victory.

Two weeks later, Temple got a big boost to its lineup when redshirt senior Travis Mahoney made his return to the sport after taking last season off to prepare for last summer's steeplechase at the Olympic Trials.

Mahoney, not only placed as Temple's fastest runner at the Paul Short Invitational, but spurred the team to its highest-ever finish at the annual meet in program history. In their last time out, the Owls claimed third place at the Lafayette Invitational, while Mahoney nabbed his first meet title since his return to cross country.

Having comparable success, Temple's women's cross country team opened the season with a second place finish at the Friend Invitational.

Sophomore Jenna Dubrow picked up right where she left off last season, as she claimed the individual title with the fastest time in the 6k run. When the team went to compete in the very prestigious Paul Short Invitational, the Owls saw visions of its program turning the corner and becoming a legitimate contender.

With a 26th place finish, the Owls placed higher than it ever had before at that particular meet. Once again Dubrow led the Owls, as she placed 13th overall, which was also the fastest a Temple runner ever completed the Paul Short Invitational. Two weeks later, Dubrow placed as Temple's fastest runner for the ninth straight time when she crossed the finish line of the Lafayette Invitational with the sixth-fastest time.

Seniors Dierdre MacFarlane and Tonney Smith, along with junior Anna Pavone have made big contributions to the team's strong finishes this season with consistent performances this season.
