OLEAN, N.Y. – After losing a tight contest to St. Joseph's last weekend, Temple Women's Soccer will open the road portion of its Atlantic 10 Conference schedule, as it travels to Olean, N.Y. to face the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Friday for a 3:00 p.m. kick-off before heading down to Pittsburgh for Sunday's 1:00 p.m. match against the Duquesne Dukes.
Temple (3-7-2, 0-1-0) comes into this weekend bearing the nation's 12 best save percentage (.871) compliments of the consistent relentless play of redshirt senior Tara Murphy and freshman Shauni Kerkhoff in goal. The Owls have been involved in seven straight games by which have been decided by one goal or less. When the team opens its weekend slate on Friday, it will be looking to get a jumpstat on offense, as the scoring has been limited this season, having just five goals on the year. Senior captain Kate Yurkovi leads the way with two goals, while senior Jourdan Brill, Morgyn Seigfried and freshman Paula Jurewicz have tallied once.
The Bonnies are coming off of back-to-back losses from La Salle and Fordham, putting them at 3-8-1 overall, 0-2-0 in A-10 play. Redshirt senior Shannon Van Riper leads the team with four goals, yielding her to eight points on the season. Three different players have split time in goal this season for the Bonnies, with junior Megan Junker getting the most playing time. Junker has 28 saves and a 1.55 goals against average in six games.
Duquesne is coming off of two straight road losses as well, losing to Fordham and falling to La Salle. The Dukes are 0-2 in A-10 play, and 4-7-1 overall. Senior Morgan Herbert is leading the Dukes with 12 points on the year with five goals and two assists. Two players have split time in goal this year for the Dukes, with Devon Tabata getting the bulk of playing time. She has a formidable 1.42 goals against average, with 46 saves in eight games this season.
Temple currently owns a two-game winning streak against Duquesne dating back to the 2009 season. Last year, Temple closed out its season with a scoreless draw against St. Bonaventure. The Owls faced St. Bonaventure and Duquesne in the same weekend and picked up a total of four points toward the standings, which was the most in any two-game span last season.
