Martinelli Sweeps Pair Of Rookie Of The Week Honors Again; Lister Named Soccer Six Player Of The Week

PHILADELPHIA – Junior Jake Lister and freshman Jared Martinelli played as the key pieces to Temple Men's Soccer beginning 2-0-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference play over the weekend. For their efforts, Lister was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week, while Martinelli swept Rookie of the Week honors from the Soccer Six and Atlantic 10 Conference for the third time in the last four weeks.
Lister tallied two goals and an assist on the weekend, including the header that served as the game-winning score on Friday against St. Bonaventure with just three seconds remaining in overtime, sending the Owls into a frenzy with a 2-1 victory.
On Sunday against Duquesne, Lister had a hand in both Temple goals, scoring in the 37th minute before providing an assist on Jared Martinelli's game-winner in the 81st minute. Lister's contributions helped move the Owls to 5-0-0 at the Ambler Sports Complex thus far this season.
Martinelli, who is tied for second in the A-10 and leads the Philadelphia Soccer Six in scoring, was named the Rookie of the Week by both committees for the third time this season. Getting his first taste of A-10 play, Martinelli collected three points on a goal and an assist.
His game-winner on Sunday broke a 1-1 tie in the 81st minute, helping move the Owls to 2-0-0 in conference play. Against St. Bonaventure on Friday, Martinelli helped send the game to overtime when his setup of Ryan Bradbury's 64th minute goal proved critical on the equalizer.
