Women’s Rowing Participates in PurpleStride Philadelphia
11.12.12 | Women's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA- On Saturday, November 3rd, the Temple Women's Rowing team ran a 5K race at Purple Stride Philadelphia for Pancreatic Cancer at Fairmount Park.
The Owls ran the race in memory of Valerie Altimari, the mother of former Temple Rowing Captain and graduate Assistant, Laura Altimari. Valerie Lost her battle with Pancreatic Cancer in May 2010 and the Owls honor her by running for the cause each year.
“It was a great team event." said Head Coach Rebecca Gryzbowski “It's a great example of the strong sense of family that exists on this team and it's something that the team looks forward to every fall.”
With the help of the Owls, PurpleStride Philadelpia raised over $50,000 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to doubling the survival rate for pancreatic cancer by the year 2020.
