Men's Soccer To Play As No. 5 Seed At A-10 Tournament; Draws No. 4 VCU For Thursday's First Round Match

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – On Sunday evening, it was announced that Temple Men's Soccer (10-5-3, 6-1-2) will play as the No. 5 seed at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship this week at Charlotte's Transamerica Field. In the first round, the Owls will take on No. 4 seed Virginia Commonwealth, who is currently ranked No. 19 in the nation on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
Nationally-ranked Charlotte headlines the eight-team field in this week's 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, the league office announced on Sunday. The 21st-ranked 49ers, who will host the newly-expanded event at Transamerica Field, Nov. 8-11, finished atop the Conference standings with 22 points (7-1-1) to be named regular season champion.
The 49ers will host the Championship for the second time in three years and third time overall since joining the Atlantic 10 during the 2005-06 academic year.
Following VCU and Charlotte, the two-time defending champion and #3 seeded Xavier (13-1-4/6-1-2) is also ranked. The remaining teams competing in North Carolina are #2 seeded Saint Louis (13-4-0/7-2-0), #6 seeded Dayton (11-5-1/5-3-1); #7 seeded La Salle (10-6-3/4-4-1); and #8 seeded Duquesne (7-11-1/4-4-1).
The Conference championship begins on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 11:00 a.m. ET, as #2 Saint Louis takes on #7 La Salle, followed by game two at 2:00 p.m., as #3 Xavier squares off with #6 Dayton. Fourth-seeded VCU and #5 Temple take the pitch at 5:00 p.m.; and #1 Charlotte and #8 Duquesne will close out quarterfinal round action at 8:00 p.m.
The two semifinal contests will be played on Friday, Nov. 9 at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., while the league championship is set to air nationally on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 4:00 p.m.
All seven matches (weather pending) are scheduled to be webcast free of charge through the A-10's online home -- Atlantic10.com.
