Eight Advance to Finals of Women's T&F A-10 Indoor Championships

RESULTS

KINGSOTN, R.I. – On Friday, Temple Women's Track and Field went to the University of Rhode Island for Day One of the Atlantic 10 Championships, where it looked to make a statement in front of the 13 opposing conference schools. At the conclusion of the first day of events, the Owls are in sixth place after six scored events.

Like the way things have gone all seen long, Temple saw solid performances from its runners all across the board.

Taking part in the penthalon, freshman Kiersten LaRoche ended up with an impressive third place finish, helpin her advacne to the finals on Saturday.

Propelling her to the high ranking were her landing distances in the jump events. With a distance of 5.37 meters in the long jump, LaRoche was second among all competitors in the event. In the high jump, the rookie competitor placed third with her landing spot of 1.55 meters. LaRoche also had a strong throw in the shot put, where she took third place with her throw that went 10.03 meters.

Standing out among them was sophomore Ambrosia Iwugo, who won the title in the preliminary 400 meter dash with her time of 56.67, earning her a spot in the event final. Iwugo will also compete in the running of the 200 meter dash final event after her qualifying speed in Friday's preliminary.

Finishing just over a second later with a time of 57.69 was Michelle Davis Timothy in sixth place, which also puts her in as a finalist.

Junior Jade Wilson's solid day also put her in the second day of competition for two events, as she led the Owls in the 60 meter hurdles and the 500 meter run

Wilson hurdled in 8.85 to take seventh overall in the event, before crossing the finish line in 1:17.12, making her the eighth fastest to do so.

In the 800 meter run, Tonney Smith and Tashima Stephens also managed to attain a spot in tomorrow's fiter having strong finishes in the preliminaries. Smith placed fourth with her time of 2:14.94, which was ahead of Stephens' sixth place time of 2:17.57.

Opening the day in the 60 meter dash, Isatta Kenneh earned eight place with time of 7.78 to advance to compete for the event title. Junior Chrystal Hercules placed just footsteps behind her for ninth place in a time of 7.82.

Also in field events, senior Alanna Owens will represent the Owls in the final round of the weight throw after earning a third place rank with her throw distance of 17.04 meters on Friday.

Temple will return to the track and field and the Mackal Fieldhouse for the second and final day of the A-10 Indoor Championships on Saturday.
