Margo Britton Takes Shot Put Conference Title, Owls Place 4th at A-10 Finals

KINGSOTN, R.I. – In event finals of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, freshman Margo Britton shined on the women's side for Temple, as she won the conference championship in the shot put event with her throw distance of 49 feet, 2.25 inches to set a new school record. Temple took fourth place in the 14-school competition, which was won by the Charlotte 49ers.
After setting ECAC qualifying marks in the trials of the 400 Meter Dash, sophomore Ambrosia Iwugo and freshman Michelle Davis Timothy contributed on Saturday with a combined total of 10 points in the event. Iwugo took the runner-up spot in the event with her time of 57.10, while Davis Timothy placed seventh with her time of 58.06. The two combined for four points in the 200 Meter Run, as Iwugo finished the event in an elapsed time of 25.22, which was faster than Davis Timothy's 25.60 speed.
Setting an ECAC qualifying mark of her own, senior Tashima Stephens tallied eight point to put toward the Owls' team total with her finish time of 2:14.98. Junior Tonney Smith crossed the finish line just hundreths of a second later to nab the third overall spot in the event with a time of 2:15.28.
More collectively, Iwugo, Davis Timothy, juniors Sheina Roberts and Tessa West formed the Owls' 4x400 Meter Relay squad, which placed third with a time of 3:51.77, placing behind Duquesne and event champ Charlotte.
“I was very pleased with our performance and to see our team step up in this type of competition,” head coach Eric Mobley said. “Once again, we had many of our guys and ladies capture ECAC and IC4A qualifying times, while others also set new personal bests.”
The Owls now have two weeks to prepare for the ECAC Championships being held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.. March 3-4, where they will compete for a chance to go to the NCAA Championships.
