NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the third time in three weeks and fourth time this season, Temple's Shey Peddy was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Dayton's Andrea Hoover was also honored for the fourth time this year as the Conference's Rookie of the Week. Peddy and Hoover were recognized for games played during the week of Feb. 13-19.
Peddy, a senior guard, averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 steals and 5.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week as Temple won its 10th and 11th straight games. With her career-high 10 steals in an 84-41 win at Rhode Island, she tied the all-time single-game record in Temple women's basketball history, set back in 1985. Peddy also led all players with 22 points in the win.
Earlier in the week, Peddy scored 15 points in a 75-54 victory versus George Washington, while pulling down eight boards and dishing out five assists without a turnover. The Roxbury, Mass., native shot 50 percent from the field for the week (14-of-28) and hit four 3-pointers. She has now compiled 897 points in just two seasons at Temple, and her 187 steals in two seasons tie for 10th on the Owls' all-time career steals list.
Peddy also earned Big 5 Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for her efforts, as well as the College Sports Madness A-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week Award.
Hoover, a freshman guard, shot an astounding .706 from the field, including a perfect 6-of-6 from three-point range on the week, while averaging 18.0 points and 5.0 rebounds. She tied her career high with 22 points (which was also a game-high) to lead the Flyers as they overcame an 11-point halftime deficit and went on to win 58-49 at La Salle on Wednesday. Hoover and senior Justine Raterman combined for 18 points in the first eight minutes of the second half and Hoover gave UD its first lead of the second half on a 3-pointer with 11:55 to play. She had 12 points and six rebounds in the second half, including back-to-back defensive rebounds, back-to-back layups, a steal and an assist in a 2:18 span that helped the Flyers take the lead for good from the Explorers. Hoover also scored a game-high 14 points in UD's 72-54 triumph over Saint Louis. She currently leads the Flyers in scoring in A-10 games with 11.8 ppg.
Peddy and fellow seniors Joelle Connelly, Kristen McCarthy and BJ Williams will be honored for Senior Night on Wednesday, Feb. 22 as the Owls face Saint Joseph's in their final home game of the year at 7:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall.
