Owls move to 1-1 on the season

CONWAY, S.C. - The Temple softball team fell at Coastal Carolina, 4-0, at the Chanticleer Challenge on February 24, 2012. The two day event is hosted by the Chanticleers. TU falls to 1-1 on the year with the loss.

Coastal had a strong showing in the bottom of the second inning to take the 3-0 lead over the Owls. Tamara Hawkins scored the first run for the Chanticleers on a double by Kiana Quolas. Sara Rasley then hit her second home run of the season on the Chanticleers' next at bat, which also scored Quolas.

Neither team was able to record a hit during the next two innings. Temple posted its first hit of the game in the top of the fifth when Kayla Cook sent a single to center field, but the Owls were unable to garner any more hits during the frame.

Coastal tallied its fourth run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jessie Winans advanced home on a Sarah Maples single down the left field line.

The Chanticleer defense carried the team during the remaining two innings, as Coastal took the 4-0 win.

Kiana Quolas earned her fourth win of the season on the mound for Coastal, as she pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits and one walk, while striking out five.

Jessica Mahoney recorded the loss for Temple following six innings pitched, in which she allowed eight hits and walked two, while striking out three.

The Owls take on IPFW, a team they defeated 2-1 earlier in the day, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday for their next game.
