CONWAY, S.C. - The Temple softball team split a pair of games on Saturday, February 25, on day two of the Chanticleer Challenge being hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Owls fell 4-0 to IPFW to open the day and rebounded for a 12-2 win over Sacred Heart in the nightcap.
TU faced the Mastadons for the second time in two days. Yesterday, the Cherry and White came out on top of a 2-1 decision, but IPFW got the upper hand this time.
The Mastadons got on the board early, notching a run in the top of the first on a Stephanie Beuther RBI single. The squad tacked on two more in the top of the fourth and another in the fifth to make up the scoring.
Miranda Kramer (1-0) stifled the Owls' bats in the win, scattering just three hits over 7.0 innings of work while striking out 11. Capri Catalano (0-1) took the loss for TU, going 5.0 innings and allowing six hits.
Temple rebounded nicely against Sacred Heart, exploding for 16 hits and 12 runs in the win. The Cherry and White broke open a 3-2 game with three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and four in the seventh.
Every starter collected at least one hit in the game, including Brooklin White's 4-for-4 performance. The sophomore hurler drove in three runs with her four singles, helping herself in improving to 2-0 on the mound. The right-hander went the distance in the win, allowing five hits and striking out three.
Stephanie Pasquale was also impressive at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, and two RBI.
Temple is 2-2 and will take on the host team in a noon game on Sunday, February 26, for its final game of the weekend.
