Lacrosse Looks to Remain Unbeaten as Owls Host Mount St. Mary's on Saturday

2-0 Owls look to improve upon perfect start to the 2012 season
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple lacrosse team will look to remain unbeaten as the Owls host Mount St. Mary's at home on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1:00 p.m. Temple is 2-0 to start the season for the first time since 2003 and coming off two big wins against Oregon and Rutgers. Fans will not have another chance to catch the Owls at home until March 17, as Temple heads out on a five-game road swing after hosting Mount St. Mary's.
Sophomore Jaymie Tabor led the Owls to a 14-12 win against Oregon in the season opener at home, scoring four of the team's final five goals including the game-winner. Earlier this week in the first road game of the year at Rutgers, the Owls came back from deficits of 5-0 and 11-6 to eventually win 12-11. Junior Stephany Parcell scored four goals in the victory while sophomore Kelly Syphard also notched a hat trick with three. Senior goalkeeper Tess Bishop had an impressive 11 saves in the cage, after a nine-save performance in the Oregon win.
With nine returning starters included in 19 returning letterwinners, Temple has experience on its side as it looks make a return to the top of the Atlantic 10 in the 2012 season. All eight of the Owls' top scorers from 2011 return this season for sixth-year head coach Bonnie Rosen, including A-10 First Team and All-Region Second Team selection, junior Charlotte Swavola.
Mount St. Mary's is 0-1 so far after an 18-8 loss to Johns Hopkins in its season opener at home on Wednesday. The Mount are coming off an 8-11 season in 2011, and they finished 6-3 in the Northeast Conference. They were picked to finish third in the preseason poll for 2012.
Nicole Price and Jen Semler, the team's top two scorers from 2011, paced the Mountaineers with two goals and an assist apiece in the loss to Johns Hopkins.
Seniors Semler and Esther Rufolo both return this season after being named to the All-NEC first team in 2011. Semler is the Mount's top returner on offense after leading the team with 33 goals and 15 assists for 48 points last year. Graduate student Price was the team's second-leading scorer in 2011 after posting 37 goals and eight assists for 45 points.
Head coach B.J. Johnson, a 2003 graduate of Penn State, is in her second season with the program. Johson was an assistant coach at Temple in 2004 and 2005, helping the Owls win the A-10 regular season title in 2005.
