Duo of Tennis Players Garner Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards

Rams and Mavrina named men's and women's performer's of the week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Temple's Filip Rams and Yana Mavrina have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Performers of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday. It is the first award of the season for both players.
Rams helped Temple to a 4-2 win over defending A-10 champion and preseason favorite George Washington, marking the Owls' first over the Colonials since 2006. The Poland native defeated freshman Francisco Dias at number one singles, taking a straight-set victory (7-5, 6-3). Dias is ranked 12th in the Atlantic Region in the most recent ITA rankings. Rams is currently 2-0 on the season with both wins coming at number one.
Mavrina opened the 2012 season with a pair of tough matches against Ivy League foes. The Russian import took on Hilary Bartlett of #50 Princeton, ranked 12th in the Northeast Region, falling in a challenging two setter 7-5, 7-6(5), before picking up her first win of the season at Cornell, defeating Sarah O'Neil easily at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
The Cherry and White men's team is 2-0 on the year and will be back in action next with a noon match at St. John's on Friday, February 10. The women are 0-2 and return to the courts on February 10 for their first home match of the season against Massachusetts at 11 a.m.
