SERIES RECORD
Temple is 6-0 against Saint Louis all-time, as the Owls have defeated the Billikens once in each season since Saint Louis joined the A-10 in 2005-06. The six wins have come by an average of over 18 points. Last year was the largest margin of victory as the Owls won 82-48 at home, and two years ago Temple defeated the Billikens on the road by a score of 63-48.
LAST TIME VS. SAINT LOUIS
Shooting a school-record 81.8 percent from three-point range and a season-best 56.4 percent overall, Temple won its ninth-straight game in an 82-48 rout of Saint Louis on Feb. 2, 2011. In front of an enthusiastic crowd of 1,151 at the Liacouras Center, made up primarily of local elementary school students for Temple's ninth annual “School Day” game, the Owls were led by Qwedia Wallace with 23 points. Shey Peddy scored 19 points and added a game-high eight rebounds.
THIRD A-10 WEEKLY HONOR FOR PEDDY
For a second straight week and the third time this season, Shey Peddy was named the A-10 Player of the Week on Feb. 6. Peddy averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Temple, including an 80-70 win at cross-town rival Saint Joseph's on Feb. 1 and a 69-51 victory over Fordham on Feb. 4. The Roxbury, Mass., native opened the week with a game-high 26 points, shooting 40 percent (6-15) from the field and 100 percent (10-10) at the line against the Hawks, while adding four assists and four rebounds.
TRIPLE DEUCE
For the first time since 1989, three Owls scored 20 or more points in Temple's 80-70 win at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 1. Shey Peddy led TU with 26, Victoria Macaulay scored a career-high 21, and Kristen McCarthy added a double-double of 20 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Macaulay's 20th and 21st points were in the final minute as she hit 2-of-2 at the line with 27 seconds remaining.
THE KRIS AND SHEY SHOW
Senior guards Kristen McCarthy and Shey Peddy, although leading the Owls in scoring all season, particularly lit it up from the floor in recent games. With 128 combined points (67 Peddy, 61 McCarthy) in Temple's games vs. Saint Joseph's, Charlotte and Xavier, all wins, the duo combined for well over half of the Owls' 209 total points. Both scored 20 or more points in two of them, with McCarthy also notching two double-doubles.
OWNING THE GLASS
Temple has allowed its opponents an average of just 33.3 rebounds per game to rank first among all teams in the A-10. The Owls also rank third in scoring defense with their opponents averaging only 56.8 points per game.
POSTS STEP UP
Temple has relied heavily on guard play for most of the season and finally got the kind of game it was looking for from its post players in a 72-47 win vs. Penn on Jan. 21. Victoria Macaulay scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting along with grabbing a game-high eight rebounds, while Joelle Connelly scored her Temple career-high with 16 points including 8-of-8 at the line.
MAC ATTACK
Victoria Macaulay had a strong start to the A-10 season on the glass, recording double-digit rebounds in three of Temple's first four conference games. Her performances included a career-high 13 rebounds in a win at Richmond on Jan. 7.
BIGGEST COMEBACK WIN IN TWO YEARS
Temple's 56-55 win in the A-10 opener at Richmond saw the Owls overcome a 14-point deficit en route to the victory. Temple has had plenty of near-comebacks this season and last, but none that resulted in a win since a season-opening victory in 2009-10 when Temple came back from 18 down to defeat Illinois in overtime.
RPI REPORT
Temple is 43rd in the RPI of 342 teams. The A-10's top team is St. Bonaventure, ranked 20th.
RIGHT IN IT
Five of TU's losses came in a six-game road swing, and TU lost the first four by an average of only seven. They were within two in the final minute three times (#24/25 Ohio St., N. Illinois and St. John's).
BJ DISTRIBUTION COMPANY
Senior BJ Williams has led the Owls in assists in 15 games and has racked up 104 total assists (5.0 per game) to lead all players in the Atlantic 10.
PEDDY THEFT
Shey Peddy continues to find ways to grab the ball from Temple's opponents, as she leads the team and ranks third in the A-10 this season with 59 steals (2.7 per game). Peddy set the program's all-time record for steals in a single season last year with 104, recording at least one steal in all but one game. Her 3.2 spg a year ago ranked second in the A-10 and tied for 10th in NCAA Division I.
McCARTHY STANDS IN FIFTH ALL-TIME
With a game-high 14 points against Villanova on Dec. 22, Kristen McCarthy moved into fifth place all-time at Temple in career scoring, now with 1,502 points.
McCarthy started the season in 11th place, but advancing further will take a little more time as Kamesha Hairston ('07) stands in fourth place with 1,573 points (71 ahead of McCarthy). At McCarthy's current pace of 13.5 ppg, it would take her just over five more games to reach Hairston's mark.
