PHILADELPHIA - In game one of a Saturday doubleheader, the Temple women's basketball team will face Massachusetts at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 in its annual Play 4Kay game, formerly known as PinkZone. The Owls (15-8, 8-1) have won eight straight heading into this weekend's match-up with the Minutewomen (6-18, 1-8) who they have beaten in 10 of the last 11 meetings. Fans will be given pink pom-poms as Temple looks to do its part to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. The team is raising money for the Play 4Kay Foundation through its own website, play4kay.org/templewbb.

Temple's men's team will play at 9:00 p.m. against Xavier on that same evening, in a "White Out" game on ESPN2.

THE OPENING TIP
•Temple is 8-1 in the Atlantic 10 and riding an eight-game win streak, most recently getting a 66-50 road win at Saint Louis, and a 69-51 home win vs. Fordham...The Owls and Dayton Flyers are tied for second place in the league but Temple holds the tiebreaker right now having beat Dayton back on Jan. 15.

BJ Williams had a season-best performance at Saint Louis with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field including 3-of-6 behind the arc...Victoria Macaulay notched her second double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-tying 13 rebounds in the win.

•Freshman Rateska Brown came off the bench for a career-high 12 points at Saint Louis.

•The Owls displayed their best shooting of the season in the Fordham win, going 32-of-64 from the field (50 percent), while also recording a season-high 20 assists and season-low nine turnovers.

•The Owls hit 21 of 25 free throws at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 1, the most free throws made in a game since the third game of 2010-11 (vs. Buffalo)...Shey Peddy hit nearly half of them, going 10-for-10.

•Peddy is the reigning A-10 and Big 5 Player of the Week for a second straight week after averaging 23.5 ppg and 7.5 apg in two wins last week...The week before, Peddy averaged 20.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 4.0 apg while also shooting a blistering 58 percent from the field including 8-of-15 from behind the arc.

•Three of the Owls' early A-10 wins (Richmond, Dayton, Duquesne) all saw the teams separated by just a point in the final minute as Temple has now proven it can hang on in tight games.

BJ Williams has led the team in assists in 16 games this season and is currently leading all players in the A-10 with 107 assists (4.9 per game).

Victoria Macaulay is averaging 9.7 ppg in A-10 games along with 9.1 rpg (third in the A-10 for league games)...Her 19 blocks in A-10 play rank first among all players at 2.1 blocks per game.

•Peddy currently ranks second among all players in the A-10 with 16.7 points per game but first for A-10 games at 18.8 ppg...She also ranks third in steals (for all games) with 59 (2.7 per game).

•Temple suffered only its second regular-season A-10 loss since the 2009-10 season when it was defeated 74-65 by St. Bonaventure at home on Jan. 11.

•Four of the Owls' losses have been to teams ranked in the Top 25, and a fifth loss was to St. Bonaventure who is now ranked 25th in the AP Poll.

•Massachusetts won its second A-10 game at Rhode Island but has since lost seven straight...Shakia Robinson and Jasmine Watson lead the team with 12.4 and 12.0 points per game, respectively.

SERIES RECORD
Temple is 29-19 all-time against Massachusetts, and the Owls have won 10 of the last 11. The lone loss was somewhat recent, however, as the Minutewomen took a 71-60 win in Amherst on Feb. 11, 2009. Temple has since earned a 66-54 home win and a 76-48 win on the road last year.

PLAY 4KAY
The “Play 4Kay” initiative was created by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association in 2007 to heighten awareness of breast cancer and raise money toward research. Formerly known as “Pink Zone,” it was rebranded this year to keep the story and legacy of Kay Yow, the legendary North Carolina State head women's basketball coach who died of breast cancer in 2009, at the forefront of its mission.

LAST TIME VS. MASSACHUSETTS
Qwedia Wallace scored a game-high 21 points to hit exactly 1,000 for her career in leading Temple to a 76-48 win at Massachusetts on Jan. 26, 2011. Shey Peddy scored 19 points for Temple and was close to a double-double with eight steals, a career-high. Joelle Connelly was Temple's third player to hit double figures with 11 points, and BJ Williams dished a game-high nine assists for the Owls.

After a slow start that saw the Owls go 3-of-12 from the field and just 1-of-9 from behind the arc, Temple rebounded in a big way for a 20-2 run to take a 14-point lead, and the Minutewomen were never able to cut the margin back to single digits.

OWNING THE GLASS
Temple has allowed its opponents an average of just 33.4 rebounds per game to rank second among all teams in the A-10. St. Bonaventure is barely edging the Owls currently, at 33.3.

THIRD A-10 WEEKLY HONOR FOR PEDDY
For a second straight week and the third time this season, Shey Peddy was named the A-10 Player of the Week on Feb. 6. She averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week, including an 80-70 win at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 1 and a 69-51 victory over Fordham on Feb. 4. The senior guard opened the week with a game-high 26 points, shooting 40 percent (6-15) from the field and 100 percent (10-10) at the line against the Hawks, while adding four assists.

TRIPLE DEUCE
For the first time since 1989, three Owls scored 20 or more points in Temple's 80-70 win at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 1. Shey Peddy led TU with 26, Victoria Macaulay scored a career-high 21, and Kristen McCarthy added a double-double of 20 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Macaulay's 20th and 21st points were in the final minute as she hit 2-of-2 at the line with 27 seconds remaining.

THE KRIS AND SHEY SHOW
Senior guards Kristen McCarthy and Shey Peddy, although leading the Owls in scoring all season, particularly lit it up from the floor in recent games. With 128 combined points (67 Peddy, 61 McCarthy) in Temple's games vs. Saint Joseph's, Charlotte and Xavier, all wins, the duo combined for well over half of the Owls' 209 total points. Both scored 20 or more points in two of them, with McCarthy also notching two double-doubles.

BIGGEST COMEBACK WIN IN TWO YEARS
Temple's 56-55 win in the A-10 opener at Richmond saw the Owls overcome a 14-point deficit en route to the victory. Temple has had plenty of near-comebacks this season and last, but none that resulted in a win since a season-opening victory in 2009-10 when Temple came back from 18 down to defeat Illinois in overtime.

POSTS STEP UP
Temple has relied heavily on guard play for most of the season and finally got the kind of game it was looking for from its post players in a 72-47 win vs. Penn on Jan. 21. Victoria Macaulay scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting along with grabbing a game-high eight rebounds, while Joelle Connelly scored her Temple career-high with 16 points including 8-of-8 at the line.

PEDDY THEFT
Shey Peddy continues to find ways to grab the ball from Temple's opponents, as she leads the team and ranks third in the A-10 this season with 63 steals (2.7 per game). Peddy set the program's all-time record for steals in a single season last year with 104, recording at least one steal in all but one game. Her 3.2 spg a year ago ranked second in the A-10 and tied for 10th in NCAA Division I.

McCARTHY STANDS IN FIFTH ALL-TIME
With a game-high 14 points vs. Villanova on Dec. 22, Kristen McCarthy moved into fifth all-time at Temple in career scoring, now with 1,503 points.

McCarthy started the season in 11th place, but advancing further will take a little more time as Kamesha Hairston ('07) stands in fourth place with 1,573 points (70 ahead). At McCarthy's current pace of 13 ppg, it would take her just over five more games to reach Hairston's mark.

BJ DISTRIBUTION COMPANY
Senior BJ Williams has led the Owls in assists in 15 games and has racked up 107 total assists (4.9 per game) to lead all players in the Atlantic 10.

NOW THE TEAM TO BEAT
After four years of finishing higher than predicted in the A-10, the Owls are finally picked first in a tie with Dayton. Last year Temple was picked third and ended up second, and two years ago was picked fifth and went on to tie for second.
