Temple takes doubles point and four of five singles matches
NEWARK, Del. – Temple's women's tennis team continued a five-match road trip with a trip to Delaware on Monday afternoon. The Owls defeated the Blue Hens 5-2 in the non-conference contest.
TU swept the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Jordan Batey and Alicia Doms earned an 8-3 win at number three to get the ball rolling, and Rebecca Breland and Cristina Grimaldi teamed up to win 8-5 at the first flight to secure the point. Yana Mavrina and Agnese Rozite were 8-6 winners at No. 2 to complete the sweep.
Batey, Mavrina and Maame Ama Osei were the first three to finish their singles matches, and all were victorious, leading Temple to a 4-0 lead and wrapping up the victory. Batey, playing at No. 3, defeated Courtney Fenimore in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Mavrina followed suit at No. 1, picking up a 6-2, 6-0 win against Dorothy Safron. Osei won almost as easily at the fifth flight, handling Olivia Heim in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Doms was also a winner in singles play, gutting out a 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 win over Samantha Carnall at the second flight.
Temple (5-7) will stay on the road to take on #53 Penn State at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The match against a nationally ranked foe is TU's fifth this season, and third in the last five matches.
