PHILADELPHIA –
The third leg of the 2012 outdoor track and field season got underway for the Temple Owls, as they went up against several city rival schools at the Philadelphia Big 5 & Friends Invitational at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

The women's side of Owls' team had a satisfying start to the season in the non-scored meet at the home of the Penn Relays.

Like the men, the ladies won the 4x100 meter run with its first place time of 47.14.

Jade Wilson led the Owls with her first place score in the 400 meter hurdles with her time of 1:01.32, which was ahead of teammate Tessa West in fourth place, who finished with a time of 1:03.53.

Earlier in the day, Wilson had a strong finish in the 100 meter hurdles, placing second with a time of 14.81. Maxine Bentzel placed inside the top 10 of the event

Titles continued to fall in the hands of Temple competitors, as senior Alanna Owens claimed first place in the discus throw with a distance of 39.15 meters.

Freshman Margo Britton, who was the Atlantic 10 Champion in shot put during the indoor season, showed why she earned the status as she won the title in Saturday's event with her first place throw of 14.22 meters.

Owens followed her, placing second with her throw that went 13.53 meters.

Rounding out field event titles, Norton Frances took part in the long jump where she was crowned the event champion with her leap of 5.34 meters. Brianna Alvarez landed just short of her—5.33 meters—but still placed second in the event.

As a group, the Owls took second place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:51.90.

Making her Temple debut in the outdoor season, freshman Jenna Dubrow ran the 5000 meter relay in 17:40.83 for second place overall, ahead of fourth place finisher Anna Pavone (18:29.17).

Isatta Kenneh led the Owls in the 200 meter dash with a third place time of 25.35, while Andrea Butler placed third in the 100 meter edition and Michelle Davis Timothy placed third overall in the 400 meter dash.

Temple will look to next weekend's meet when it heads to College Park, Md. for the Maryland Invitational on Saturday, March 31.
