Owls' 4x800 Meter Relay Squad Moves On To Finals At ECAC Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - The women's side of Temple's track and field team opened competition at the ECAC Indoor Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday afternoon. Standing out for Temple was its 4x800 meter squad, comprised of sophomore Victoria Gocht, senior Elizabeth-Paige White, freshman Jenna Dubrow, juniors Sheina Roberts and Tonney Smith, which finished in 7th place with a season-best time of 9:07.28 -- quick enough to earn them a spot in Sunday's final .
The afternoon opened with sophomore Ambrosia Iwugo completing the 400 meter dash in 56.35, which was her season-best. Iwugo, along with juniors Tessa West, Tonney Smith and senior Tonney Smith, helped the Owls' 4x400 meter relay squad to its season-best time of 3:46.58.
Competing in the penthalon, freshman Kiersten LaRoche placed 13th overall. Her best finishes ocurred in field events, as she tied for fifth place in the high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches). LaRoche placed inside the top 10 in the long jump with a seventh-place distance of 5.33 meters (17 feet, 6 inches). In the shot put, Laroche also earned seventh place, tossing 10.03 meters (32 feet, 11 inches).
Senior Alanna Owens, who will compete in Sunday's weight throw final, participated in Saturday's shot put event, where she tossed 12.32 (40 feet, 5 inches).
The 4x800 meter relay sqaud will join Owens and the distance medley relay squad (Anna Pavone, West, Gocht and Dubrow) in Sunday's finals at the ECAC Championships.
