COLLEGE PARK, Md. –
In its first scored meet of the outdoor season, the Temple women's track and field team finished with 179 points to earn second place at the Maryland Invitational at the Kehoe Track Complex. The Owls were led by Brianna Alavarez and Ambrosia Iwugo, who won titles in the long jump and 400 meter dash, respectively. Alavarez set a new personal best in the event with her landing distance of 5.61 meters, while Iwugo elapsed her event in a time of 56.13.

Temple had a strong day in its group events, as its 'A' squads in both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays each met ECAC qualifying standards.

In the 4x100 relay, the 'A' squad, comprised of time of Crystal Hercules, Dia Dorsey, Andrea Butler and Isatta Kenneh, finished in 47.45 to take second place in the event.

Making up the 4x400 meter 'A' squad was Tonney Smith, Jade Wilson, Iwugo and Tessa West, who combined to also take second in the event with a time of 3:48.81. The 'B' squad finished just seconds after, placing third with their time of 3:53.70

Also meeting ECAC qualifying standards on the day were freshman Margo Britton and senior Alanna Owens, as they placed second and third, respectively, in the shot put.

Having a solid all-around meet and showing improvement from last week's competition at the Big 5 and Friends Invitational, the Owls had several other high finishes in Saturday's events. In addition to Alavarez setting  new personal best, freshman Jenna Dubrow  and sophomores Anna Pavone and Taylor Goldsworthy all reached new career-best times in their events.

Dubrow  took second place in the 3000 meter run with her quickest time ever in the event (10.01.14) to earn the Owls eight points toward their second place finish.

Pavone competed in the same event, where her time of 10:17.98 was the sixth fastest time in the event.

Goldsworthy's time of 11:55.44 was just seconds off from breaking the school record, but it still put her in seventh place when she crossed the finish line.

The Owls accumulated most of their team points in the 400 meter dash, as five runners placed within the top six to earn points. Sheina Roberts had a strong finish in the event, as she placed second overall – only behind Iwugo—with her time of 57.41.

From here, the Owls will now prepare for next weekend's meet, which begins Friday down at the University of Florida for the Florida Relays.
