Women's Rowing Takes Gold at The San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO- The Temple women's Varsity 8 won the Carley Copley Cup at the 2012 San Diego Crew Classic Sunday. It marked the first-ever win by the Owls at the prestigious regatta.
The Varsity 8+ comprised of Eleanor Oken (coxswain), Victoria Joye (stroke), Claudia Loeber (seat-7), Brittany Adell (seat-6), Taylor Wasserleben (seat-5), Joanna Sutor (seat-4), Jeanine Lees (seat-3), Paige O' Sullivan (seat-2) and Jackie Lees (bow) placed first with a time of 7:17 beating out Cal, Union BC, and UCLA.
"Our Varsity 8 made history today by being the first Temple boat ever to win at the San Diego Crew Classic after battling two great eights from the University of California and UCLA, said Coach Read. We have come a long way in the past few months but we still have a long way to go. The next few weeks will be very intense in terms of training and technical instruction. I have confidence that the whole team will improve."
The Owls return to action on Saturday April 14th with the Knecht Cup.
