Canning and Watson Named to All-ECAC Teams; Conference-Best 16 Members Selected to All-Academic Team

PHILADELPHIA - Seniors Katie Canning and Kaity Watson received posteason recognition from the Eastern College Athletic Conference on Monday. Canning, who is the conference's all-around champion for the 2012 season, was selected as a member to the All-ECAC first team. Watson led the Owls with a 9.775 on bars in the conference championship back on March 24, earning her a spot on the conference's second team. In the same release, the ECAC announced its All-Academic Team, which included 16 members from Temple, which is the most in the conference
At the conference title meet, Canning combined for a score of 39.200 through the four events she worked, giving her the highest all-around score by a Temple gymnast in program history, breaking the former record point total earned by Adrienne Carver in 1997. The Billerica, Mass. native also tied for the conference title on beam and in the floor exercise, with a pair of 9.775's. Canning, who is also on the conference's All-Academic team has won all-around at five meets this season.
Watson progressed and was a catalyst for the team down the stretch. A week before competing at the ECAC Championships, she set her career-high score working the all-around at William & Mary.
The conference-leading 16 Temple names on the All-Academic team are listed below. Students with a GPA of 3.2 or higher were eligible for the recognition
