Owls look for a repeat of an upset over the Tigers two seasons ago

PHILADELPHIA - The third ranked opponent of the season awaits Temple lacrosse on Wednesday, April 4, as the Owls will host #18 Princeton (4-4) at Geasey Field at 4:00 p.m. Temple is 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10 but will be taking a break from conference play to face the Tigers. Fans can view live stats HERE.

Princeton leads the all-time series with Temple 19-9 since the teams began playing each other in 1982, but the Owls won the last meeting, 14-12 at home in 2010. That game ended Princeton's 11-game win streak in the series and was an upset for Temple with the Tigers ranked 17th at the time. Current Owls Stephanie Markunas and Charlotte Swavola both recorded hat tricks in the win.

Last week Temple cruised to a 16-4 win at St. Bonaventure in its A-10 opener before returning home where the Owls suffered a 14-7 loss to Duquesne.

The Owls started the season 5-0 for the first time since 1988, but are looking to get back to their winning ways after dropping four of the last six.

Some impressive wins have included a 14-12, season-opening win vs. Oregon, a come-from-behind, 12-11 win at Rutgers, a 12-3 win vs. Mount St. Mary's and a 21-10 win at Lafayette.

Senior Lauren Caminiti was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week after the first two wins of the season, having led the Owls with six ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls. Swavola earned A-10 Player of the Week honors more recently after recording her second hat trick of the season in an 11-9, come-from-behind win against Delaware on March 17.

Stephany Parcell leads the Owls with 22 goals so far this year, while Markunas has scored 17 goals along with recording 13 assists for a team-high 30 points. Jaymie Tabor has scored 15 goals, Karly Cohen has scored 14 and Swavola ranks third on the team in points with 12 goals and 12 assists for a total of 24.

Despite a 4-4 record, Princeton is ranked 18th in the latest IWLCA top-20 poll after playing a tough schedule that has included four ranked teams so far. The Tigers are coming off back-to-back losses to #20 Johns Hopkins by a score of 9-8 and to #18 Cornell by a score of 13-12 in overtime. Princeton's biggest win so far this season was a 9-7 upset of #10 Virginia.

Junior Jaci Gassaway leads the team in scoring with 30 points on 21 goals and nine assists. Junior Cassie Pyle has a team-high 23 goals and two assists for 25 points, and freshman Erin McMunn leads the team in assists with 17.
