GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Freshman Margo Britton shined on a national stage, as she placed second in the women's shot put event at the Florida Relays being held at Percy Beard Track. Britton's mark of 15.06 meters broke a school record held by Sharon Mitnik since 1982. Courtesy of a solid collective effort from Ambrosia Iwugo, Michelle Davis Timothy, Isatta Kenneh and Tonney Smith in the 1600 sprint medley relay, the Owls shattered the school record in the event with a time of 3:58.55.
Over the course of the day, Temple had solid performances as a unit and posted several ECAC qualifying marks.
In the 4x400 meter relay, Iwugo, Jade Wilson, West and Sheina Roberts combined for a season-best finish time of 3:43.81 for 23rd place.
Isatta Kenneh, Dia Dorsey, Andrea Butler and Gennie Depass teamed up to form the 4x100 squad for the Owls. The group placed 35th in the event with a season-best time of 46.95 to meet ECAC standards.
Another ECAC qualifying mark was met in the 4x800 meter relay, as Victoria Gocht, Smith, Jenna Dubrow and Roberts elapsed the event in 9:03.84 for fourth place in the event.
Britton, who placed overall and second in her heat of the event with an ECAC mark, is the second freshman in as many days to break a 30-year school record. Her record time in the shot put comes day after rookie Jenna Dubrow broke TU's highest mark in the 1500 meter run.
The Owls will head to Fairfax, Va. for next Saturday's running of the Mason Spring Invitational at George Mason University.
