Marks first time two Owls have been honored in same season

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University women's rowers, Joanna Sutor and Taylor Wasserleben were named to the nine-member 2012 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference teams announced today. It marks the first time that Temple has been represented by two rowers on the prestigious team that honors academic and athletic success, and the first time an Owl has been so honored since Anne Mikolajewski was named to the 2008 squad.

“I am thrilled for Joanna and Taylor” said Temple women's rowing coach Jason Read.  "They are as relentless in the classroom as they are on the river.  They epitomize what it means to be great student-athletes.  This distinction is something we strive for in our young women, and validates the many programmatic steps we've taken as a team since August has us headed in the right direction."

Wasserleben, a senior kinesiology major, compiled a 3.45 cumulative grade point average while also earning first team all-Atlantic 10 Conference honors as a member of the Owls' varsity 8.  Sutor, a junior nursing major from Northfield, NJ (Mainland Regional), compiled a 3.79 cumulative grade point average while earning second team all-Atlantic 10 Conference as a member of TU's varsity 8.

The duo also helped lead Temple to a tie for third place overall at the A10 Championship.  That tied for the highest finish in program history. They sit next to each other in the Owls' number one shell with Wasserleben in seat six and Sutor in seat five.
