Women's T&F Earns Runner-Up Spot At A-10 Championships; Britton Tabbed Outstanding Rookie of the Year

AMHERST, Mass. – The Temple Track and Field showed signs of its program turning a major corner, as it displayed itself as one of the premiere programs in the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships this weekend, as the women's squad hauled in a second place finish to earn the runner-up spot behind 2012 champion Charlotte. Freshman Margo Britton's outstanding performances in the throwing events over the course of the season continued into the main meet of the season, as she won conference titles in the discus throw and the shot put, helping her to be crowned the A-10's Most Outstanding Rookie of the Year.
Off the heels of her A-10 Indoor Shot Put title, Britton has now won the same event in the outdoor season with a mark of 14.44 meters. Earlier in the day, her discus throw mark of 162 feet, 3 inches not only earned her the A-10 championship in the event, but the three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week destroyed the Temple University school record set back in 2010 by Ebony Moore.
Senior Alanna Owens took part in the throwing events on Sunday. Her best performance came in the shot put, as she placed just behind Britton with a second place mark of 14.16 meters. In the discus throw, she placed ninth with a mark of 39.57 meters.
Junior Ambrosia Iwugo had a strong finish in the 400 meter dash for the Owls, as she took the runner-up position in the event with a new personal best and ECAC qualifying time of 54.67. Sheina Roberts who qualified for the event yesterday, placed seventh with a time of 56.09. Taking part in the 200 meter edition of the event, Iwugo placed second among Temple participants and fourth overall with a time of 24.63.
Third-year runner Isatta Kenneh had an outstanding day as well. Kenneh led all Owl runners in the 200 meter dash with the third-best time in the event (24.51), while taking fifth overall and first among Temple competitors in the 100 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 12.20.
Kenneh teamed up with Crystal Hercules, Dia Dorsey and Andrea Butler in the 4x100 meter relay, where the four combined for a season-best time of 46.47 for third-fastest in the meet.
Junior Jade Wilson participated in both hurdle event finals, In the 400 meter style, she placed third with a time of 1:00.37. Her time of 14.32 was enough to earn her fifth place.
Tessa West competed in the 400 meter hurdles along with Wilson and came away with a finish time of 1:01.63 to earn seventh place.
Freshman Jenna Dubrow was Temple's fastest runner in the 5000 meter run, having a 16th place time of 17:59.74. Sophomore Anna Pavone ran the event in 18:42.80 after placing as Temple's fastest runner in the 1500 meter style of the event with a 11th place time of 4:37.02, which was ahead of Dubrow in 19th place.
In the 800 meter run, junior Tonney Smith earned a third place time, as she finished the race with a personal best and ECAC qualifying time of 2:10.47.
A day after winning the heptathlon, Kiersten LaRoche placed ninth in the triple jump with an average mark of 11.31 meters, yielding her to a second place finish in the pentathlon.
The Owls' individuals now look to work their way into the NCAA Championships, as all qualifiers for next weekend's ECAC Championships head to Princeton to compete for their chance to represent Temple in front of a national field.
