AMBLER, Pa. – After opening the season with three straight road matches, Temple Women's Soccer finally makes its 2012 debut at the Ambler Sports Complex Friday afternoon against the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. The Owls will stay local for the duration of the weekend, as they will head to Penn on Sunday night for an 8:00 p.m. opening kick at Rhodes Field. The Owls enter Friday's match looking to bounce back from a pair of losses they endured last weekend against Hofstra and James Madison at the Fairfield Inn By Marriott Invitational. Senior Jourdan Brill is coming off all-tournament team honors after leading the Owls with a goal and three shots. In its season-opener, Temple battled Stony Brook to a one-all tie back on Aug. 19.
NJIT visits Ambler looking to break a three-game losing streak, which have all been decided by one goal. In the Highlanders last time out, they were held scoreless by the Rhode Island Rams on the road. Already this year, NJIT shut out Saint Peter's in its season-opener and have proved to be very competitive against a strong Marist team and against Rider.
Penn opens its season on Friday against James Madison before taking on the Owls Friday night. The Quakers are returning 14 players from a squad that had a program-best season, going 14-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the Ivy League in 2011. Among its returnees, Penn brings back three of its top four scorers from a year ago in Kathryn Barth, Megan York and Callan Parra. Goalkeeper Sarah Banks started 16 of Penn's 17 matches last year, allowing just five goals for a 0.42 goals-against average that was among the national leaders.
While Temple is meeting NJIT for the first-time ever, the Owls will take on Penn for the 11th time. To date, Temple and Penn have each won five games in the all-time series.
