Martinelli Repeats As A-10 & Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week
9.24.12 | Men's Soccer
Official Releases: Atlantic 10 | Philadelphia Soccer Six
PHILADELPHIA— For the second consecutive week, freshman midfielder Jared Martinelli has swept Rookie of the Week honors from the Atlantic 10 Conference and the Philadelphia Soccer Six committee.
Coming off a five-point week, Martinelli bettered that in just a two-game span. Having six points through games against Saint Peter's and Howard, he continued to prove his anticipated potential for the Temple men's soccer program.
With a pair of goals and a pair of assists, Martinelli was a catalyst in helping the Owls move back to the .500 mark and win back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Against Saint Peter's he put Temple on the board first by providing an assist on teammate Cody Calafiore's goal in the 13th minute.
Sunday against Howard (Sept. 23) was a scoring spree for the Mechanicsburg, Pa. native, as he buried two balls in the back of the net—one on a penalty kick—and added a helper on junior Jake Lister's 66th minute goal
Joining him on the A-10 honor roll is Richmond's Houston Oldham, who had three goals through two matches last week. On the Philadelphia Soccer Six ballot, Drexel's Michele Pataia and Penn's Stephen Baker were named Co-Players of the Week, while Drexel's Tal Bublil and Penn's Max Kurtzman were tabbed Defenders of the Week.
