Temple freshman wins first Player of Week and second Rookie of Week honor

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University freshman Brandon Matthews swept the Atlantic 10 Conference weekly golf awards, as the DuPont, Pa., native was named both Player and Rookie of the Week, the A-10 announced on Wednesday. Matthews was honored for his performance during the week of Sept. 19-25.

Matthews, who also earned A10 Rookie honors last week (9/12-18), captured individual medalist honors at the Hartford Hawks Invitational at the Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Conn., after eagling the first hole of a sudden death playoff to defeat Sacred Heart's Peter Ballo and Iona's Dylan Newman. Matthews shot a 2-under par 214 (74-68-72) over the 54 holes to help the Owls secure a sixth place finish among the 16 teams.

Temple Golf returns to competition this weekend, travelling back to Connecticut to take part in the MacDonald Cup on Saturday and Sunday.  The MacDonald Cup will be played on the Yale University Golf Course in New Haven.
