PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's tennis team heads to the University of Pennsylvania this weekend for the first-ever Penn Invitational. The tournament gets underway Friday morning with matches spread out over the 18 courts of the Hamlin Tennis Center and the Levy Tennis Pavilion. A total of 16 teams will be represented at the event, which features seven flights of singles and two flights of doubles play.
Action begins at 9 a.m. on Friday morning with the first round of doubles play in both brackets. Following the conclusion of those matches, two rounds of singles as well as one round of consolation singles will be completed. Play will continue on Saturday with the finals of each flight to take place on Sunday.
Temple will be represented by six individuals and three doubles teams. Kacper Rams will play in the Penn flight, Kristian Marquart is active in the Quaker flight, Nicolas Paulus plays in the Hamlin flight, Hicham Belkssir and Hernan Vasconez are in the Ben Franklin flight, and Maros Januvka is in the Blue flight.
In doubles play, Rams and Marquart team up in flight A, while Belkssir and Januvka, and Paulus and Vasconez, pair up in the B flight.
The tournament will run from Friday through Sunday and, in addition to Temple, features teams from Binghamton, Brown, Buffalo, Delaware, Drexel, Iowa, Lehigh, Minnesota, NJIT, Norfolk State, Princeton, Saint Francis (PA), Saint Joseph's, and Saint Peter's, as well as the host Quakers.
