NEW HAVEN, CT - The Temple University golf team is in eighth place, nine strokes behind the leader Central Connecticut, after Saturday's first round of the Macdonald Cup. The 15-team Invitational hosted by Yale is being held at par 70, 6,749 yard The Course at Yale.
Owl freshman Brandon Matthews, the reigning Atlantic 10 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, leads the Cherry and White and is tied for 13th overall with an even-par 70. Senior Devin Bibeau is one stroke back and tied for 19th with a 71. Sophomores Paul Carbone (73) and Matt Crescenzo (74) are tied for 34th and 49th place, respectively while sophomore Conor Dunne (80/74th place) rounds out the squad.
Central Connecticut leads the field with a one-under 279. St. John's (280) is one shot off the pace and is followed by Yale (282), Notre Dame (282), Hartford (283), Harvard (283), St. Edward's (287), Temple (288), Columbia (289), Fordham (291), Rhode Island (291), Yale II (292), Holy Cross (292), Brown (292) and Sacred Heart (297).
Monte Mullen of Central Connecticut tops the field of 75 golfers with a four-under par 66.
Play concludes on Sunday.
