9.4.12 | Women's Gymnastics
PHILADELPHIA— Preparing for his seventh season at the helm of the Temple women's gymnastics team, head coach Aaron Murphy has hired former Temple male gymnast Blake Collins to his coaching staff as his graduate extern.
Collins graduated from Temple in 2011 with a degree in public relations and fulfilled his four years of athletic eligibility this past spring as a member of the men's gymnastics team that finished the season ranked No. 10 in the nation, went undefeated against ECAC opponents and won the 2012 conference championship with a program-best team score of 347.400.
In his final year donning the Cherry & White as an athlete, Collins was among six gymnasts in the nation to be designated as an Academic All-American Scholar Athlete based on all four years of eligibility.
Collins, who was looked upon for leadership and as a role model for the underclassmen, served as the team's captain, was a member of a team that placed as the runner-up for the National Academic Team Championship, was selected to Temple Athletics' Trustee Ten and was the male recipient of the Enterprise Spirit and Sportsmanship Award for demonstrating a devotion to the essence of sport through their acts of sportsmanship.
Helping the Owls to the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, Collins was awarded the bronze medal on horizontal bars at the ECAC Championship Individual Finals
