Men's Tennis Opens 2012 Fall Season at Navy Blue Invite

Owls face St. Bonaventure first in round robin flighted tournament

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Temple men's tennis team got the 2012 fall season underway with its play at the Navy Blue Invite on September 7-9. The Owls squared off against St. Bonaventure to open play on Friday. The teams split two doubles matches, while a short-staffed TU team won two of the five singles bouts played.

Sophomore Kristian Marquart and newcomer Hicham Belkssir picked up an 8-6 win at the second doubles flight for Temple's win.

In singles action, senior Kacper Rams was a straight-set winner over Elliot Fanshell at number one, 6-1, 7-5. Also winning for the Owls was sophomore Hernan Vasconez, taking a 6-3, 6-2 decision at the fifth flight.

All three of the other singles matches went to a tiebreaker third set, but Temple's players came up on the short end of all of them. Marquart dropped a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) decision at number two, while freshman Nicholas Paulus fell 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) at the third flight. Belkssir was on the short end of a 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) decision at number four.

Temple will face Delaware at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, before finishing the weekend playing the host Navy at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 9.
